Mike. I'm really sorry to hear you have been a victim to these low lifes'. I thought it was only the boats moored on our jetty (E) that had been targeted. If the level of service from the management at BWML is concerned, I am confident you are left feeling let down by their lack of action and apparent concern. Following a significant increase in thefts of outboards, fuel tanks and even one incident of a whole boat being removed by thieves from the marina, tied up at the flood lock and stripped bare of everything, the BWML appear lack lustre in getting to grips. At least three owners who have been victims have now terminated their contracts as a result of perceived lack of security and tellingly, lack of empathy, support or action from BWML. BWML must share part responsibility with Leicestershire Police for failing to tackle this crime wave. I suggested to John Rush that BWML approach SMARTWATER with a view to some form of support, when Leicester Police should, in my opinion, have been looking at crime prevention programmes. It's almost as if they think boat owners are all loaded so the loss is somehow less impactive! The lack of security has been raised numerous times over the last couple of years at the berth holder meetings, that have changed their format to 'Social Events'to avoid difficult confrontations, yet little has been done to improve it. I have written to YBHA for some direction on what standards they require members to maintain the 5 Gold anchor award Sawley was granted. Sawley appear proud of the award, which includes good security in its assessment. I also submitted a comments card to the management but am yet to receive a response. HEADS IN THE SAND SYNDROME! The marina manager continues to offer unfulfilled promises to look at security but we are, at present, open targets from the pond life that feel they are free to take peoples property and cause much damage and heartache into the bargain. The loss of income from terminated moorings would, I would suggest, have covered installation costs of CCTV and perhaps BWML could still have retained those customers. I don't think BWML can continue to avoid responsibility as they are aware of their failings in security, yet are reticent to do anything about it. I understand that there are possibly hundreds of pontoon keys in circulation, many in the possession of former customers no loner at Sawley. Talk of swipe cards or fobs continues, but nothing has been forthcoming. Phew! Got that off my chest I'll get off my soap box now. Sorry to other forum members for my rant. Mike, if you're passing E pier drop, in for a cuppa. Let's hope for some improved security soon, but don't hold your breath. Simon.
